In collaboration with their humanities class, middle and high school students spent the second half of trimester two exploring the art of West Africa. They viewed a variety of ancient art from this region and examined its cultural significance through virtual tours of the online collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Museum of African Art. From there, students built on last trimester’s learning about symbolism in art and design principles to replicate Adinkra and Kente textiles using relief printmaking techniques. Students also designed their own masks, which they began creating with plaster of paris this today!
