Our primary students are learning more and more about the elements of art and have been using new materials and techniques to express themselves each week. Their investigation into the life of Henri Matisse inspired these vibrant, cut-paper collages that challenged them to reflect on how they can purposefully use space and color to communicate an emotion. The Middle and High School Students have been exploring the language of art, and are discussing how and why artists use basic design principles when creating their work. Why does a particular piece of art, such as Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night, make us feel the way it does? Through our investigation of concepts such as emphasis, proportion, and rhythm, students have been challenged to think about the deliberate choices that artists make and the impact that those choices have.

It's 10:00 on Tuesday morning. Do you know where your students are?
There's a pretty good chance that they're over in the art room, which we open once a week during first recess for Open Art Studio. Students of all ages have been dropping by to work on self-directed art projects. Now many of them are asking if we can open the art room EVERY DAY during recess...BAES students just can't get enough art! |
